Building Confident English Speakers – Our Team Strategy Meet
Date: 19th July 2025
Location: Kanavu Startup Village
At Kanavu, our mission is to help every student speak English with confidence. In today’s team meeting, we discussed simple, effective strategies to make this happen in all our classrooms.
Repetition is Key
We agreed that repeating the same sentence patterns for a few days—even up to a week—helps students absorb and confidently use them.
Two Sentences a Week
We will provide two simple English sentences every week and ask students to use them in their daily life—with friends, family, or teachers. Consistent usage leads to natural learning.
Encouraging the Quiet Ones
Some students hesitate to speak, especially those in the back benches. We decided to gently go near them and say:
“You try, I will correct you.”
This friendly approach helps reduce fear and builds trust.
Teach and Practice
We will teach one basic sentence structure and encourage students to form their own sentences. This empowers them to think and speak independently.
Rewards Motivate
Small gestures like stickers or gifts will be used to reward effort and participation. Appreciation goes a long way!
Guiding Silent Listeners
Not all listeners are engaged. Some may not relate to the class and even distract others. These students will be gently separated for two days for focused guidance. This helps them realize the importance of the session and start listening better.
Real-Life English Practice
We’ll use everyday classroom moments to introduce English naturally.
Example: If a student comes late, we’ll say:
“Why are you late? Please come in.”
Then we’ll ask them to give the reason in English, such as:
“I missed the bus.”, “It was raining.”, etc.
Team Activities
Interactive sessions like storytelling, skits, and role-plays will be part of our classroom routine to make learning fun and engaging.
Final Thought
We don’t want to rush the learning process. Instead, we believe in repetition, patience, and encouragement. With these, every child can become a confident communicator.
