Purpose of Small Talk in English Before we get to learn specific questions and answers, it’s essential to understand the purpose of small talk. Moreover, there are several functions for small talk including: Common Questionsfor Small Talk in English Now, let’s learnabout five common small talk questions in English and how to respond to them effectively. “How are you?” or “How’s your day going?” While these questions may seem simple, they can be tricky to answer. Instead of a brief “fine, thanks,” consider adding a simple detail about your day. For example, “I’m hanging in there. I’ve been quite busy this week.” “How was your weekend?” This question often arises on Monday mornings. Provide a specific detail about your weekend activities, such as “I took it easy and caught up on some reading” or “We went to the movies, and it was a blast.” “How was your vacation?” When asked about your vacation, share one or two highlights or experiences. For instance, “It was amazing.
